A Mouse is in the House - What Now? Transporting a Mouse Outdoors

Safely Transporting a Mouse Outdoors
When a mouse finds its way indoors, it can be safely and humanely guided back outside. This method utilizes a common household item to facilitate its removal without harm.
Required Materials
- Cardboard Tube: A postal tube or similar cardboard cylinder with a minimum diameter of 5 cm to ensure the mouse is not injured. One end of the tube should be closed, or a lid/hand should be available to cover it.
Step-by-Step Guide
- Clear the Area: If pets are present, remove them from the room to avoid disturbing the mouse or the process.
- Access the Mouse: Carefully and quietly move any furniture or obstacles behind which the mouse may be hiding. Ensure enough space to place the tube over it.
- Encourage Entry: Gently place the open end of the cardboard tube over the mouse. The mouse will likely perceive the tube as a safe hiding spot and enter it.
- Secure the Mouse: Slowly and carefully lift the tube upright against the wall. This allows the mouse to slide down to the closed end of the tube. Immediately cover the open end with a lid or your hand.
- Release Outdoors: Transport the secured tube outdoors. Find a suitable location away from your home and gently tip the tube to release the mouse into its natural habitat.
This approach provides a stress-free way to relocate unwanted indoor mice back to the outdoors.
