Cleaning Glass Containers and Flower Vases Easily and Quickly

Simple Method for Cleaning Vases and Glass Containers
Glass containers, especially flower vases, often have shapes that prevent manual cleaning. This guide outlines an effective, time-tested method to clean them using readily available materials.
The Newspaper and Water Method
This technique utilizes the abrasive yet gentle properties of wet newspaper to dislodge dirt and residue from the inside of glass vessels.
Step-by-Step Instructions:
- Fill with Water: Fill the glass container almost to the brim with clear, cold water.
- Prepare Newspaper: Take a sheet of newspaper (avoid glossy paper from magazines, as it is not effective for this method) and tear it into small pieces.
- Add Newspaper: Carefully add the torn newspaper pieces into the water-filled glass container.
- Soak: Allow the mixture to sit for approximately 1-2 hours. This period allows the paper pieces to become fully saturated.
- Strain: Pour the water and wet paper mixture through a kitchen strainer or colander to prevent the paper from entering and potentially clogging the drain.
- Dispose: Dispose of the wet newspaper. It can be allowed to dry slightly before disposal to prevent dripping from the waste bag.
After following these steps, the vase should be clean.
For Stubborn Stains:
If the vase has not been cleaned for a long time and has particularly stubborn, encrusted residues, repeat the process. For this repeat cycle, use slightly less water mixed with the newspaper pieces and gently shake the container in circular motions 2-3 times before letting it sit again. Then, proceed with straining and disposal as described above.
This method is effective for various glass containers, including jam jars and similar vessels, making them effortlessly clean.
