Combating Fleas

A flea infestation requires prompt action. Fleas lay eggs that can survive for up to 15 months. Only 5% of fleas are typically found on the pet itself, while the remaining 95% reside in the surrounding environment, primarily within the household.

Swift action is crucial to prevent widespread infestation and minimize discomfort for the affected pet, which can result in excessive scratching and biting.

Flea Eradication Strategies

To effectively manage and eliminate a flea problem, consider the following steps:

• Pet Bathing: Bathe the pet in lukewarm vinegar water. Adding dish soap to the bath helps to incapacitate and drown dislodged fleas.
• Flea Combing: Thoroughly dry the pet and comb its fur using a fine-toothed flea comb to remove any remaining fleas or eggs.
• Natural Sprays: Utilize natural sprays such as a water-vinegar mixture, water-lemon juice mixture, or water-tea tree oil mixture. Place the chosen solution in a spray bottle and apply it to the pet’s fur and surrounding household areas.
• Laundry and Disinfection: Wash all washable pet bedding, blankets, and pillows, especially boil-proof items, at 90 degrees Celsius (194 degrees Fahrenheit). Disinfect the surrounding environment or spray it with a homemade solution.
• Black Tea Application: Scatter dry black tea leaves in corners and along baseboards, as fleas are known to be deterred by this.
