Crafting a Poinsettia from Banknotes

This guide details how to create a poinsettia (Weihnachtsstern) decoration using banknotes, mounted on a sturdy base.

Materials

Fold one banknote to determine the minimum size for the cardboard base. The base should be slightly larger than the assembled banknote poinsettia, typically 2-3 cm wider on all sides.
Cut the cardboard to the desired shape. A polygonal shape can enhance the aesthetic.

Cut the fabric or film for covering. A specific cutting pattern, particularly for the corners, is recommended to avoid bulkiness and ensure a neat finish. This involves cutting away small sections at the corners of the covering material.
If the covering material is creased, iron it on a low setting (level 2) before proceeding.
Place the cardboard onto the reverse side of the covering material. Cut out the corners as indicated by the pattern.
Apply double-sided adhesive tape along one edge of the cardboard. Remove the backing and fold the covering material over the edge, pressing firmly from the center outwards to prevent wrinkles.
Repeat this process for the opposite edge, and then for a third edge.
For the final edge, gently pull the covering material around the cardboard edge, smoothing it towards the sides. Press this last section onto the sides of the cardboard, working from the center outwards.
The goal is to achieve a smooth, even surface on the front of the base, with no visible folded edges.

Carefully fold each banknote as per specific instructions (refer to external guides for banknote folding techniques if needed).
Arrange the folded banknotes on the covered base to form the poinsettia shape.
Adhere the banknotes to the base. A contrasting small star can be added to the center for decoration.

To protect the arrangement during unwrapping, it can be enclosed in clear gift wrap and placed in a protective cardboard sleeve. The sleeve can be decorated to match the theme.

TIP: Consider mounting the poinsettia within a picture frame, adhering it to the matting.
