Crafting with Natural 'Chicken God' Stones

Crafting a Decorative Door Hanger with ‘Chicken God’ Stones
This guide outlines the process of creating a decorative item for a door using natural materials, specifically stones with holes, also known as ‘Chicken God’ stones.
Materials:
- Stones with natural holes
- Packaging ribbon
- Small pieces of driftwood
- Small hand drill
- 1 sturdy nail
Steps for Creation:
- Measure and Prepare: Determine the desired length for the hanger along the door. Secure the nail at the chosen spot.
- Arrange Materials: Lay out the stones in order of size. Measure the ribbon, allowing extra length that can be trimmed later.
- Begin Stringing: Tie a loop at one end of the ribbon for hanging. Start by threading a smaller stone onto the ribbon and tying a knot below it to secure its position. Continue this process with each stone, adding pieces of driftwood intermittently.
- Spacing and Customization: The spacing between the stones does not need to be uniform. Double knots can be added between stones, creating small loops where additional beach finds like wood, feathers, or shells can be inserted later.
- Enlarging Holes: If a stone’s hole is too small for the ribbon or contains chalk deposits, a hand drill can be used carefully to enlarge it.
- Finishing the Hanger: Attach the largest stone at the end of the ribbon and secure it with a firm knot.
- Adjust and Hang: Periodically hang the nearly completed string of stones on the nail to assess its appearance and plan further additions. Once satisfied with the arrangement, hang the finished decorative piece on the door frame.
