Crocheting Finger Puppets

How to Crochet Finger Puppets

This guide provides instructions on crocheting simple finger puppets using basic crochet techniques. The process involves creating a base structure that can then be adapted to resemble different animals.

Materials Needed

  • Yarn in desired colors
  • Sewing needle for weaving in ends
  • Stuffing (e.g., cotton filling)

Basic Structure

  • Round 1: 6 single crochet (sc) stitches into a magic ring (6 stitches).
  • Round 2: Double each sc stitch (12 stitches).
  • Round 3: Double every second sc stitch (18 stitches).
  • Round 4: Double every third sc stitch (24 stitches).
  • Round 5: Double every fourth sc stitch (30 stitches).
  • Rounds 6-10: Crochet 5 rounds without increases (30 stitches).
  • Round 11: Decrease by crocheting every 4th and 5th sc stitch together (24 stitches).
  • Round 12: Decrease by crocheting every 3rd and 4th sc stitch together (18 stitches).
  • Round 13: Decrease by crocheting every 2nd and 3rd sc stitch together (12 stitches).
  • Round 14: Decrease by crocheting every 1st and 2nd sc stitch together (6 stitches).

Stuff the head with cotton filling between rounds 11 and 14. Close the remaining stitches with a needle and thread and securely weave in the yarn end.

Body

Chain approximately 17 stitches and join to form a ring. Crochet single crochet stitches in rounds until the desired length is achieved. The number of foundation stitches should be adjusted to fit the circumference of a finger. Consider using a contrasting color for the final round.
