Utilizing Old Blades for Paper Crafts

As the blade dulls over time, it can be replaced for fabric cutting. The ‘old’ blade, however, remains perfectly suitable for cutting paper and thin cardboard. This allows for a secondary use of the tool for various craft projects.

Creative Applications

• Calendar Decoration: Annual calendars can be repurposed by removing the dated pages. The remaining decorative backing can be used as an evolving wall art piece, with pages swapped out according to mood.
• Wall Art: Individual calendar pages can be detached and attached to walls or cabinets using removable adhesive strips. For an enhanced visual impact, these pages can be mounted on larger colored cardstock, creating a matte effect. The rotary cutter ensures precise, right-angled cuts for these mattes, or even freehand polygonal shapes.

• Cutting Mat: A self-healing cutting mat, typically around 0.4 cm thick and made of specialized plastic, is essential. It protects both the rotary cutter’s blade and the work surface.
• Straight Edge/Ruler: Always guide the rotary cutter along the edge of a ruler to prevent slippage and ensure accurate cuts. Specially designed, thick, transparent patchwork rulers are available in various sizes. These rulers often feature centimeter and inch markings, as well as common angles for cutting shapes like rectangles and triangles.
• Rolling Motion: When using the rotary cutter, push it away from the body with firm pressure, using a rolling motion rather than a back-and-forth sawing action.
• Multiple Layers: The rotary cutter can efficiently cut through multiple layers of paper or fabric simultaneously, ensuring identical shapes without the need for repeated measuring.

Enhancing Grip for Precision

To prevent rulers from slipping during cutting, small pieces of sandpaper can be adhered to the underside of the ruler. This provides sufficient grip while still allowing visibility through the ruler.
