DIY Beeswax Wraps | Instructions

Beeswax wraps are a reusable and sustainable alternative to single-use plastics like aluminum foil and cling film. They are easy to clean and can be reused multiple times, significantly reducing waste. Furthermore, pure beeswax ensures that no harmful substances transfer to food.
Materials:
- Scraps of fabric
- Pure beeswax (pellets, sheets, or pure beeswax candles)
- Iron
- Parchment paper
Instructions:
1. Cut Fabric Scraps
Cut the fabric scraps to the desired size. Consider the dimensions of your containers (jars, bowls, dishes) to create perfectly fitting wraps. Beeswax wraps are also suitable for wrapping food for on-the-go.
2. Hem Edges (Optional)
For a neater finish and to prevent fraying, the edges of the fabric can be hemmed.
3. Distribute Beeswax
Place a fabric piece onto a sheet of parchment paper. Distribute small pieces of beeswax evenly over the fabric. If using beeswax from candles, ensure they are made of pure beeswax.
4. Ironing
Cover the fabric with a second sheet of parchment paper. Carefully iron the fabric with the iron set to a medium heat. The heat will melt the beeswax, allowing it to penetrate the fabric.
5. Ensure Full Coverage
The beeswax will give the fabric a slightly yellowish tint, making it easy to identify areas that require more wax. Continue ironing and adding wax until the entire fabric is evenly coated.
6. Allow to Cool
Let the wraps cool down completely until the beeswax hardens. Once cooled, the beeswax wraps are ready to use. The pliable nature of the wraps allows them to conform to any container, creating an airtight seal that helps keep food fresh longer.
Tip: Save the used parchment paper for future beeswax wrap creations to further minimize waste.
