DIY Bird Feeder from a Disposable Bottle

DIY Bird Feeder from a Disposable Bottle

This guide outlines how to easily construct a bird feeder for garden birds using a disposable milk bottle.

Construction Steps

Follow these steps to build your bird feeder:

  1. Mark the Feeding Opening: First, mark the location and size of the feeding opening on the disposable bottle.
  2. Cut the Flap: Using nail scissors, make a horizontal cut along the bottom edge of the marked opening and two vertical cuts extending upwards from the ends of the horizontal cut.
  3. Form the Flap: Bend the created flap inwards. The vertical cuts should be long enough for the flap to nearly touch the opposite inner wall of the bottle. This inward-bent flap helps regulate the flow of bird food when the feeder is filled from the top through the screw cap.
  4. Assemble the Perch: Glue three small pieces of wood together to form a perch for the birds. Hot glue can be used for secure bonding.
  5. Secure the Flap: To ensure the flap remains in its desired position, apply a generous amount of hot glue to the corners of the opening, fixing the flap in place.
  6. Prepare for Hanging: Carefully pierce a hole in the screw cap using nail scissors, ideally while resting the cap on a protective surface. Enlarge the hole by rotating the scissors. Thread a piece of string through this hole for hanging the feeder, then tie a knot to secure the string.

Following these instructions will allow you to create a functional bird feeder, providing a food source for garden birds.
