DIY Upcycling Vase for Mother's Day

This guide provides instructions on how to create a decorative vase from repurposed materials, suitable as a gift for Mother’s Day.

Materials Needed:

  • Wooden sticks (round or flat, or natural branches)
  • Old cans, jars, or bottles
  • Ribbon
  • Hot glue gun
  • Saw
  • Flowers (optional)

Step-by-Step Instructions:

  1. Preparation: Clean the chosen glass container (can, jar, or bottle) thoroughly. Remove any labels by soaking the container in water and scrubbing. For stubborn adhesive residue, a small amount of cooking oil can be used.

  2. Cutting Wooden Sticks: Measure and cut the wooden sticks to the desired length. It is recommended to make them 1-2 cm longer than the height of the container for a neat finish. Mark the cutting line with a pencil before sawing.

  3. Attaching Wooden Sticks: Apply hot glue to the wooden sticks and press them firmly onto the cleaned glass container. Hold for a few seconds until the glue sets. Avoid using excessive glue to prevent it from showing on the sides. Leaving small gaps between the sticks allows for the placement of a candle, where the candlelight can then shine through.

  4. Adding Additional Rows (Optional): For taller containers, or if shorter sticks are used, a second row of sticks can be attached to the glass to cover more surface area.

  5. Finishing Touches: Wrap a decorative ribbon around the finished vase and tie a bow. Place your favorite flowers or a candle inside the vase.

  6. Mother’s Day Gift Idea: For a personalized Mother’s Day gift, attach a card with a personal message to the ribbon.
