Drilling a Pumpkin Instead of Carving - DIY

DIY: Creating a Decorative Pumpkin with Drilled Holes
This guide details how to create an aesthetically pleasing autumn decoration by drilling holes into a pumpkin, offering an alternative to traditional carving.
Materials Needed:
- Pumpkin
- Cordless drill (with two different drill bit sizes)
- Knife and spoon
- Tea lights
Step-by-Step Instructions:
- Prepare the Lid: Cut off the top of the pumpkin to create a lid.
- Hollow Out the Pumpkin:
- Scrape out the seeds using a spoon.
- Remove as much of the flesh from the inside of the pumpkin shell as possible.
- Note: If using an edible pumpkin variety, save the flesh for culinary use.
- Drill the Holes:
- Once the pumpkin is hollowed and the shell is relatively thin, begin drilling holes.
- For a patterned effect, draw vertical lines on the pumpkin at regular intervals using a pencil.
- Mark the points along these lines where you intend to drill.
- Using the cordless drill, create holes along the marked points in two different sizes. Drill carefully and slowly to avoid slipping through the pumpkin wall.
- Drill holes into the pumpkin lid as well.
- Insert Tea Lights: Place two or three tea lights inside the pumpkin, depending on its size and desired brightness.
- Decorate (Optional): The finished pumpkin can be further embellished by arranging it on a plate with other autumn elements like chestnuts and tying a ribbon around the stem.
