For Colds: Japanese Mint Oil & Rising Foot Bath

Cold Relief: Utilizing Japanese Mint Oil and a Rising Foot Bath
When experiencing a cold, a simple yet effective remedy involves a specific type of foot bath performed just before going to bed. This technique, known as a “rising” foot bath, leverages the therapeutic properties of Japanese mint oil (peppermint oil) and gradually increasing water temperature to promote circulation and well-being.
How to Perform the Rising Foot Bath:
- Preparation: Select a basin or bowl large enough to comfortably accommodate both feet. Prepare a supply of boiling water alongside the basin.
- Initial Soak: Begin by filling the basin with lukewarm water. Add a few drops of Japanese mint oil (peppermint oil) to the water. The essential oils in the mint oil penetrate the skin, exerting a stimulating effect.
- Gradual Temperature Increase: After two minutes, the water temperature will have slightly cooled. Add some of the prepared boiling water to the basin to increase the temperature. This process of adding hot water every two minutes to maintain and raise the temperature is the “rising” element.
- Duration: Continue this process for a total of 10 minutes.
- Post-Bath Care: At the end of the 10 minutes, the feet should appear red and feel thoroughly warmed due to increased blood circulation. Dry the feet immediately with a towel.
- Rest: Get into bed directly after drying the feet. The warmth in the feet, combined with the aroma of the peppermint oil, creates a soothing sensation and promotes relaxation, often resulting in feeling revitalized the next morning.
