Make Colorful Candles with Toilet Paper Rolls

DIY Colorful Candles Using Toilet Paper Rolls

This guide explains how to create vibrant, multicolored candles using leftover candle wax and readily available materials.

Materials and Preparation:

  • Base: A piece of thick cardboard.
  • Wicks: Candle wicks.
  • Molds: Empty toilet paper rolls.
  • Wax: Assorted leftover candle wax.
  • Adhesive: Glue (to secure wicks and rolls).
  • Melting: Various containers for melting wax.
  • Stove: For melting wax.

Step-by-Step Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Base: Create holes in the thick cardboard for the candle wicks. Ensure a minimum spacing of 6 cm between holes (to accommodate the 4 cm diameter of the rolls plus 2 cm for spacing). Securely glue the wicks to the cardboard, ensuring they are upright. Note that wicks are typically designed to burn in one direction, so position them accordingly.
  2. Secure the Molds: Glue the toilet paper rolls onto the cardboard base, centering them over the wicks.
  3. Melt the Wax: Place leftover candle wax in different containers and melt it on the stovetop.
  4. First Wax Layer: Pour a thin layer of melted wax into each toilet paper roll. This initial pour helps to test the integrity of the adhesive and prevent leaks as the wax melts.
  5. Layering Colors: Allow the first wax layer to set partially before pouring the next. The time between pours will determine the color blending: pouring quickly while the wax is still liquid will result in colors mixing, while waiting for the wax to harden will create distinct, separate color layers.
  6. Continue Pouring: Continue layering different colored melted wax until the toilet paper rolls are full or all the wax is used.
  7. Drying: Let the candles dry completely, ideally for a full day.
  8. Demolding: Carefully peel the cardboard base away from the dried candles. This process may require patience but yields satisfying results.
