Make Your Own Flower Vase from a Light Bulb

DIY Flower Vase from a Light Bulb

Old light bulbs do not need to be discarded; they can easily be transformed into unique flower vases or hanging vases.

Materials Needed:

  • An old light bulb
  • Safety glasses (recommended)
  • Tweezers
  • Pliers
  • A screwdriver
  • A small nail
  • Decorative thread for hanging
  • Water and flowers OR soil and seeds (e.g., cress)
  • A funnel (optional, for adding soil/seeds)

Steps to Create Your Vase:

  1. Prepare the Light Bulb: Put on safety glasses for protection.
  2. Remove the Base: Carefully use pliers to pull out the silver bottom contact. This will likely cause the black socket to break away. If it doesn’t, gently break it with the pliers.
  3. Clear the Interior: Insert a screwdriver into the opening and gently turn it inwards. This will break the internal glass structure. Use tweezers to remove the internal components. Shaking the bulb may also help dislodge them.
  4. Wash the Bulb: Once empty, wash the light bulb.
  5. Create Hanging Holes: Using a small nail, carefully create two small holes on either side of the threaded base. These holes are for threading decorative material to hang the vase.
  6. Add Contents:
    • Fill the bulb with water and place a few garden flowers inside.
    • Alternatively, use a funnel to add soil and seeds (like cress).

Displaying Your Vase:

Find a suitable place to display your creation. Hanging multiple bulbs of different lengths side-by-side can create an appealing visual effect.
