Transporting Horse Manure "Hygienically" in a Car

Transporting Horse Manure in a Car

Horse manure is an excellent fertilizer and can often be obtained for free from riding stables. Transporting it in a standard passenger car can be done cleanly and without mess by following these steps.

Preparation and Loading at the Stable

Materials needed:

  • Rubber boots
  • Buckets
  • Trash bags (approx. 30 liters)
  • Newspaper
  • Shovel

Steps:

  1. Prepare the buckets: Line each bucket with a trash bag, folding the upper edge of the bag outwards and over the rim of the bucket.
  2. Fill the buckets: Place the prepared buckets close together and fill them with manure using the shovel. Reserve one trash bag to cover the shovel.
  3. Seal the bags: Gather the edges of the trash bags and tie them securely.
  4. Protect the shovel: Place the reserved trash bag over the shovel to prevent the car from getting dirty.
  5. Line the trunk: Lay down a single layer of newspaper in the car’s trunk.
  6. Load the buckets: Arrange the sealed buckets tightly packed in the trunk, and if necessary, in the footwells. Ensure they are snug against each other to prevent them from becoming projectiles in case of an accident.

Tip: Most stables have an outdoor water hose available to clean rubber boots.

Unloading at Your Destination

Steps:

  1. Remove the manure: Carefully remove the trash bags from the buckets, holding them by the knot.
  2. Dispense the manure: Position the bag over the desired location in the garden, cut a slit in the bottom of the bag with a knife, and allow the manure to flow out precisely where needed.

This method ensures that the car, hands, and even the buckets remain clean. Dispose of the used trash bag remnants in the appropriate recycling bin.
